Book Nook BonanzaMost people don’t think about going to the York City Ice Rink in late June. But now, there’s a good reason to go.

The York City Ice Rink, 941 Vander Ave., York (near York Catholic High School) is the new location for the York Hospital Auxiliary Book Nook Bonanza, Friday, June 22, through Sunday, June 24.

“We’re excited about the new location,” said Lisa Oriolo, events specialist for WellSpan Philanthropy. “It affords us more space and will allow us to put all the books in one area instead of individual rooms like in the past. This will make it easier for patrons to go from section to section, improving the foot traffic pattern.”

Oriolo said another plus of the new location is plenty of parking. Every child attending will receive a tote bag of goodies, sponsored by PNC Bank.

The Book Nook Bonanza will be held 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 22. Admission is $5 for adults and children 12 and under are free all weekend. The event continues 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 23. Admission is $2 for adults. The Book Nook Bonanza closes from noon to 1 p.m. and reopens for a half price sale from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Book Nook Bonanza concludes on Sunday, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is $1 for adults. All books are $5 per yardstick of books.

“The Book Nook Bonanza has always been an event where you never know what you’ll find,” offered Oriolo. “It’s a great opportunity to find the missing book in a series, books by your favorite author or try a new author.”

Patrons can easily and inexpensively gather a year’s worth of reading in a few minutes. While paperbacks and hard cover books are always popular, there are plenty of other items such as CDs, LPs, VCR movies, DVDs, magazines and sheet music. There’s also a section of rare books.

“This year, we’ll also offer for sale WellSpan artwork that is no longer being used,” said Oriolo. “There will be plenty of frames that can be used for craft projects.” Proceeds from the event benefit York Hospital Auxiliary-sponsored initiatives.
