Staff, physicians and volunteers make area a better place to live, work and play
WellSpan cares for nearly 15,000 patients every day. Think about it. That’s more people than the population of Gettysburg and Red Lion combined. Every day.
Those patients may be in our hospitals, medical group practices, CareExpress, emergency departments, ReadyCare, lab and imaging centers, surgical centers, rehabilitation facilities or other sites.
Besides patients, WellSpan staff members impact their family members and friends. National Hospital and Health System Week (May 6-12) is a good time to think about how many lives we touch and how we improve the lives of those individuals and the communities in which they live.
Residents in south central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland count on WellSpan to:
- Provide high-quality health care
- Bring life into the world
- Care for the aged
- Ensure safety when an emergency or disaster strikes
- Educate people about the impact of lifestyle on their health and well-being
- Provide comfort at the end of life
- Work toward improving the health of those in our communities
- Provide care to those who can not afford it
- Be an integral part of the community
- Provide a seamless continuum of care
This also is an appropriate time to reflect on some of WellSpan's achievements in the past year:
- The WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital and the new Gettysburg Hospital Emergency Department both opened in April to tremendously positive feedback from the community residents.
- The WellSpan Medical Group has reached more than 500 providers, including 150 new providers in the past two years.
- WellSpan was named a Top 100 Integrated Health System for the sixth consecutive year by IMS, a health care data and consulting company in Danbury, Conn.
- Gettysburg Hospital earned two VHA Achieving Patient Care Excellence (APEX) awards for prevention of catheter-associated blood and urinary tract infections.
- WellSpan opened three CareExpress retail clinics, designed to be convenient for patients.
- WellSpan continued to expand its community partnerships, including the WITF “Facing Cancer Together” initiative.
- And, of course, WellSpan staff members have continued to create more stories of caring, kindness, superior care and going the extra mile.
The dedication, hard work and contribution of WellSpan’s more than 8,700 staff members, physicians and volunteers make this a better place to live, work and play.
