A new era is beginning for a local institution.
The WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary is shifting its fundraising efforts from the Lebanon Street Fair to the Lebanon Area Fair.
The auxiliary held its final Lebanon Street Fair in 2018, which was its 70th year.
This year, the auxiliary will hold its Festival of Themed Baskets event at the Lebanon Area Fair, 80 Rocherty Road, from July 20 to 27. The event is a raffle of baskets, featuring everything from baby items to backyard grills, that are donated by departments at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as well as area businesses.
“We cherish the many friendships and the happy memories we made at the Street Fair,” said Auxiliary President Gina Boehler. “We will honor that tradition by finding new ways to serve the hospital and look forward to continued community support at the Lebanon Area Fair.”
During its 98-year history, the auxiliary has raised $2.7 million for the benefit of the hospital, selling jarred jams and homemade aprons in its early years and holding fashion shows and holiday bazaars in recent years.
The all-volunteer group has provided more than $400,000 in healthcare career scholarships, provided $150,000 to the WellSpan Sechler Family Cancer Center, purchased portable X-ray machines and paid for renovations to the hospital’s New Beginning Birth Suites.
